Dr. Marcianna Ptak Delaney

Marci Delaney is currently the NASA Exploring Space Challenges project manager.  Dr. Delaney is a faculty member of the Goddard Earth Sciences and Technology Center of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.  She also is a member of the STEM Education Research & Technology team at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, which contributes to and maintains the Goddard Digital Learning Network and other education technology programs.

Marci received her B.S. in Marine Biology with a concentration in Physics at the University of North Carolina in Wilmington in 1994.  She earned her M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Biological Oceanography at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John’s, Newfoundland.  She lives in Bowie, Maryland with her husband, son and black lab.  Her favorite things to do are to spend time outside gardening, walking and biking with the family.  She also loves to travel when she can. 

Kareen Borders

Kareen Borders is the winner of last year’s Teacher Challenge, and author of Mission: Hurricanes!  She is a National Board Science Teacher and teaches 8th grade science, plus an Astronomy and Aerospace class at Key Peninsula Middle School in Lakebay, Washington.  Kareen is also the team lead for the NASA Explorer School team at her school, one of two NASA Explorer Schools in the state of Washington.  In addition to teaching middle school, Kareen is active in many professional development organizations and aerospace organizations that contribute to STEM education.  Kareen earned a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Psychology at the University of California at Irvine in 1989.  She completed her M.A. in Education at California Polytechnic University San Luis Obispo in 1992.  Kareen is currently looking into a doctorate program and hopes to begin within the next year.  Kareen enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, traveling, genealogy, swimming, and reading.
